The 2021 Leonora Golden Gift is set to go ahead WA DAY LONG WEEKEND JUNE 5-6th, 2021

The 2021 Leonora Golden Gift is set to go ahead WA DAY LONG WEEKEND JUNE 5-6th, 2021. The event has cemented itself as one of the premier road miles, not only in Australia, but the world, with over 20 Olympians competing for a prize pool over $50,000 in its 19-year history.

With the health and wellbeing of the Leonora community and visitors to the region being of the utmost importance, coupled with all non-essential mass gatherings of 500 or more people in Australia being banned at the time, the Shire of Leonora was left with no choice but to cancel the 2020 event.
Event organiser, Ross Johnson is extremely excited that the 2021 event is scheduled to go ahead and believes it is vital for the region to bounce back after lockdown, with an outstanding community focused initiative like the Golden Gift.
“I’m over the moon that the Gift is planned to go ahead in 2021. The event industry was one of the hardest hit during lockdown and Leonora Shire’s commitment to getting the event up and running again next year is fantastic.”
Over the years the event has not only hosted some of the world’s best runners but also numerous internationally recognized musicians such as Rose Tattoo, Eskimo Joe and in 2019 Pete Murray played a memorable set, leading into the LotteryWest Saturday night community concert fireworks.
Not to be outdone by previous years, Mr Johnson has already secured one of Australia’s most prolific singer songwriters for 2021.
“Next year we have booked in the fabulous Christine Anu for the Saturday night concert. Miss Anu will also be running a community music workshop with the locals, which we are all very excited about.”

After being associated with the Gift for over a decade now, Mr Johnson, knows the importance of an event like the Leonora Golden Gift for the community
“The Gift is much more than a running race for the local community, it brings experiences, inspiration and education through a multitude of pathways that have been developed over the years. From the elite athletes running clinics with the local school children, to the rides, food, positive economic impacts and the overall buzz around the event, you can see how vital it is for the community that we hold the Gift once again.”
